United States President Donald Trump has announced his latest\neconomic policy relating to the war against Iran. Trump pledged to\nimpose economic sanctions on any country that assists Iran.<\/p>\n
Trump said he would launch a large-scale campaign targeting Iran\u2019s\neconomy. He described the policy as the most devastating economic\noperation the US has ever carried out against a country.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, I am announcing the most devastating economic operation ever\nconducted against any country! This will be economic warfare and\nisolation on an unprecedented scale,\u201d Trump wrote on Truth Social, as\nreported by AFP on Thursday (20\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
He said the US would impose harsh economic sanctions on countries\nthat provide assistance to Iran.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am also announcing that any country that allows its financial\ninstitutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide\nany lifeline assistance to Iran will face extremely severe economic\nconsequences,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He did not specify what penalties those countries would face, and no\ncountry other than Iran was mentioned specifically.<\/p>\n
Trump\u2019s statement came nearly a week after US Treasury Secretary\nScott Bessent said the US would impose economic isolation on Iran at a\nlevel \u201cthe world has never witnessed before.\u201d<\/p>\n
Although missile attacks have subsided recently, Iran continues to\nmaintain an effective blockade on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz,\nafter an initial agreement between the US and Iran to reopen the vital\nroute failed to materialise.<\/p>\n
