Truck drivers most reckless toll users<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The National Police have singled out truck
\ndrivers as the most reckless toll road users in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Police spokesman Brig. Gen. I Ketut Ratta said yesterday that
\nthe numerous traffic violations on toll roads showed that the
\ndiscipline of Indonesian drivers is yet to be improved.<\/p>\n
"The lack of discipline causes four to five accidents to
\nhappen on toll roads every day," Ratta told reporters.<\/p>\n
He said that of the total cases of toll road traffic
\nviolations the police recorded last month, 653 were committed by
\ntruck drivers.<\/p>\n
The second worst violators were drivers of pick-ups (280),
\nfollowed by those of sedans (268), minibuses (146), buses (120)
\nand jeeps (45).<\/p>\n
The most common violations were to drive slower than the
\nminimum speed limit, driving in the lanes reserved for emergency
\npurposes and zigzagging in the lanes.<\/p>\n
Last month's violations resulted in 135 accidents, which
\ncaused more than a dozen deaths, scores of injuries and
\nsubstantial material losses, Ratta said.<\/p>\n
Ratta called on motorists to better abide by the road rules so
\nthat the number of accidents on toll roads can be minimized.<\/p>\n
"Theoretically, accidents should be rare on toll roads, which
\nare spacious and smooth," he said.<\/p>\n
Ratta also announced that the police listed 2,086 criminal
\ncases, including 42 murders and 1,770 thefts, across Indonesia
