'Tritura' still relevant<\/p>\n
Jan. 10 is observed as Tritura day, celebrating three people's
\ndemands made twenty-nine years ago today by Indonesian students.
\nThe youths demanded that the Indonesian Communist Party be
\nbanned, the Cabinet be purged of communist elements, and the
\nprices of goods be lowered.<\/p>\n
As has been known, Tritura emerged in the midst of difficult
\neconomical and political conditions resulting from betrayal and
\nthe attempted communists G-30-S coup in 1965.<\/p>\n
The question now is whether the Tritura demands are still
\nrelevant today. This question is justified because the people's
\ndemands from 29 years ago have been realized.<\/p>\n
Indonesia now faces new situations and globalization and
\nliberalization are new challenges. Thus the theme and spirit of
\nthe Tritura are still highly relevant and must be followed to
\nachieve real values of democracy, justice and truth.<\/p>\n
