Trisakti students launch reform tour<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Forty Trisakti University students have begun a
\nreform tour to 25 universities throughout the country to reignite
\nthe reform movement, for which four of their colleagues were
\nkilled last May.<\/p>\n
The tour kicked off on Tuesday with Trisakti rector Thoby
\nMutis speaking to a gathering at the university's campus in West
\nJakarta.<\/p>\n
Thoby urged students to unite and create a coordinated
\nstrategy to be implemented throughout the country.<\/p>\n
\"The reform movement has yet to end. Students should rethink
\ntheir goals and improve their unity,\" Thoby said.<\/p>\n
Trisakti student senate chairman Yulianto Hendro Cahyono said
\nthe tour was aimed at generating support from other universities
\nto press the Armed Forces to investigate and reveal the killers
\nof their four friends.<\/p>\n
The four students were killed on May 12 during a demonstration
\nwhich later led to the resignation of then president Soeharto.
\nThey were Heri Hartanto of the School of Industrial Technology,
\nElang Mulya of the School of Architecture, Hendriawan Sie of the
\nSchool of Economics and Hafidhin Royan of the School of Civil
\nEngineering.<\/p>\n
So far, only two police officers have been sentenced to prison
\nby a military tribunal for ordering their men to shoot at the
\ndemonstrators.<\/p>\n
\"We will screen a film about the May incident at every
\nuniversity we visit,\" Hendro said.<\/p>\n
Soon after the kicking-off ceremony, the student delegation
\nleft for the Bogor Institute of Agriculture.<\/p>\n
Patimura University in Ambon, Maluku, in the eastern part of
\nIndonesia is the last university scheduled on the tour, which
\nends on Oct. 8.<\/p>\n
The Rp 60 million tour is being funded by the university, he
