Trigger-happy soldier questioned<\/p>\n
BANDUNG: Army Chief Gen. R. Hartono said yesterday that last
\nweek's killing of 19 people in Irian Jaya was triggered by
\n\"personal factors\", not a rivalry between the red and green beret
\nforces.<\/p>\n
Hartono rejected suggestions that the shooting incident was an
\nindication that the Armed Forces (ABRI) is divided by political
\ninterests.<\/p>\n
\"The speculation is the work of foreigners who don't like
\nABRI,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He said the red beret Kopassus soldier who killed 19 people in
\nIrian Jaya is still being questioned in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
He said Second Lieutenant SNP of the Army's Special Force
\n(Kopassus) is being questioned with the help of psychologists to
\ndetermine his state of mind during the killing spree.<\/p>\n
Soldiers from Kostrad, the Army Strategic Reserves Command,
\ndon green berets.<\/p>\n
The lieutenant killed 11 fellow soldiers and four civilians,
\nincluding a New Zealand pilot, at the hangar of the Timika
\nairport on April 15. Four more died from their wounds last week.<\/p>\n
Hartono said that the Armed Forces is also investigating the
\ndeaths of two soldiers reportedly killed by Irian separatist
\nrebels before the soldier opened fire. (17)<\/p>",
