Tri affirmed that batik is not just a fabric used in everyday life,\nbut part of the nation\u2019s cultural identity that must continue to be\npreserved.<\/p>\n
According to her, many people still do not fully understand the long\nprocess of making batik. Behind the beauty of the motifs and colours in\nthe batik fabrics, there are skills, perseverance, and a considerable\namount of time required.<\/p>\n
Tri believes that the lack of appreciation for batik is a challenge\nin itself for cultural preservation efforts.<\/p>\n
The development of the modern textile industry offers a variety of\nmore practical and affordable fabric options.<\/p>\n
According to her, this has led some people to overlook the artistic\nand philosophical values contained in hand-drawn batik and traditional\nbatik.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is because it is being replaced by other fabrics that are more\npractical and cheaper. This is a challenge for all of us to ensure that\nthe heritage of batik-making skills can continue to be maintained and\nnot lost,\u201d said Tri at the Acculturation Exhibition of Peranakan Batik,\nat the Kompas Tower, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (13\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n
The statement serves as a reminder that the preservation of batik is\nnot only the responsibility of artisans or the government, but also of\nall levels of society as users and appreciators of cultural works.<\/p>\n
Tri also highlighted the public\u2019s habit of often viewing batik merely\nas a clothing product without considering the long process behind its\ncreation.<\/p>\n
She believes that the habit of bargaining for the lowest possible\nprice when buying batik can reflect that appreciation for the work of\nthe artisans still needs to be improved.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe often wear batik every day, and when we buy batik, we bargain for\nthe lowest possible price. Seeing the process, which is not easy, this\nmakes us all realise,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
