Transportation ties with RI to be boosted: Poole<\/p>\n
DARWIN (Antara): Minister for Transportation, Trade and
\nIndustry of Australia's Northern Territory, Eric Poole, has
\ncalled for the strengthening of transportation ties between
\nAustralia and Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Addressing a meeting here Tuesday, Poole said there should be
\nefforts to reduce management costs which transportation operators
\nand exporters face.<\/p>\n
\"This can be done by lowering airport and harbor service
\ncosts, eliminating various constraints and delays in customs
\nservices,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"We see that such a process has been successfully applied in
\nthe Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines - East ASEAN Growth
\nArea (BIMP EAGA), that prompted us to work hard to make the
\nexisting cooperation between the Northern Territory and Eastern
\nIndonesia a success,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He added that business should be realistic in its approach to
\nnew services.<\/p>\n
He thus called for the changing of regulations that hamper
\ntransportation relations between the Northern Territory and
\nEastern Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Poole also said he appreciates efforts launched by a contact
\ngroup to make practical arrangements to boost transportation
\nrelations in the region.<\/p>\n
He expressed hope that the Indonesian government would
\nintroduce an open-sky policy in Indonesia's eastern region to
\nlure Australian investors in air transport.<\/p>\n
\"If foreign operators are allowed to fly in Indonesia's
\neastern region, there will be free competition. This would
\nresult in lower transportation costs and thus benefit Indonesia,\"
\nhe said.<\/p>",
