Transportation must be improved<\/p>\n

As a public transportation user, I have really put my hopes on
\nAgum Gumelar, the transportation minister, to bring about
\nimprovements to transportation, particularly land transportation.
\nIn spite of frequent fare hikes, the city administration has yet
\nto deliver its promise to improve public transportation services.<\/p>\n
Transportation entrepreneurs under the Organization of Land
\nTransportation Owners (Organda) have simply made empty promises.
\nPeople still jostle for and stand in crowded buses, trains and so
\non, a situation that encourages pickpockets. City residents
\nshould, perhaps, resign themselves to the prospect of losing
\ntheir wallets and other valuables, not to mention inhaling dirty
\nair, as the regulations on vehicle emissions are also not
\ncomplied with.<\/p>\n
Inconsiderate public transportation drivers, who frequently
\ndeviate from their routes, also hamper passengers' activities. In
\naddition, railway services are no better than buses: they are
\neven more inhumane.<\/p>\n
I therefore call on the transportation minister to immediately
\novercome the problem. As there still remains in the 2001 budget
\nthe social compensation fund for the transportation sector, I
\npropose that funds be allocated for the purchase of additional
\neconomy-class train carriages or buses for state-owned operators,
\nas well as for improving the emissions of public transportation
\nvehicles to reduce pollution levels.<\/p>\n
