Hakim, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>Following the division of the ministry of industry and trade<br>\ninto two ministries, the government will form a new directorate<br>\ngeneral at the Ministry of Industry to supervise the booming<br>\ntransportation, electronics and information and communications<br>\ntechnology sectors.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Industry Andung A. Nitimihardja said during a<br>\nhearing with House of Representatives Commission V for trade,<br>\nindustry and state-owned enterprises on Wednesday the new<br>\ndivision would be called the \"directorate general for<br>\ntransportation equipment and telematics industries\".<\/p>\n<p>It will be responsible for developing policies, standardizing<br>\nand regulating industries that manufacture all forms of<br>\ntransportation, electronics and information and communication<br>\ntechnology equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Andung said in his presentation the new division was necessary<br>\nto help Indonesia take advantage of the lucrative transportation<br>\nequipment and electronics markets, which were globally worth US$2<br>\ntrillion in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>The transportation equipment industries include the<br>\nmanufacturing of automobiles, motorcycles, railroad cars,<br>\nmaritime and aerospace transportation products, related<br>\ncomponents and related maintenance services.<\/p>\n<p>With the new directorate general, the ministry will have four<br>\ndirectorates general. The other three are the directorate general<br>\nfor the agriculture and chemical industries, the directorate<br>\ngeneral for the metal, machinery, textile and miscellaneous<br>\nindustries, and the directorate general for small and medium<br>\nindustries.<\/p>\n<p>In the former administration, the transportation equipment and<br>\ntelematics industries were under the supervision of the<br>\ndirectorate general for metal, machinery, textile and<br>\nmiscellaneous industries.<\/p>",
