        "content": "<p>Transportation council members announced<\/p>\n<p>Bambang Nurbianto, The Jakarta Post\/Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>The newly formed City Transportation Council announced on<br>\nWednesday its 13 members, who were selected through a series of<br>\nrecruitment tests.<\/p>\n<p>The new councillors -- comprising academicians, experts,<br>\nbusiness players and non-governmental organizations of the<br>\ntransport sector, as well as public transportation workers and<br>\nusers -- will team up with an official from the city<br>\ntransportation agency and a Jakarta Police official.<\/p>\n<p>Recruitment committee member Darmaningtyas said the<br>\nrecruitment tests conducted by the University of Indonesia was<br>\nfair and the administration did not intervene in the process.<\/p>\n<p>He said the council would be divided into five commissions<br>\noverseeing fare and finance, education and public relations,<br>\nroadworthiness and facilities, research and development and<br>\nregulations.<\/p>\n<p>The establishment of the council is mandated under Bylaw No.<br>\n12\/2003 on transportation, which was endorsed on Nov. 13, 2003,<br>\nand required the administration to set up the council six months<br>\nafter its enactment.<\/p>\n<p>However, the bylaw does not detail the council's authority nor<br>\ntasks, which are to be determined in a gubernatorial decree.<\/p>\n<p>A number of experts are pessimistic that the council will not<br>\nplay a significant role in resolving transportation problems, as<br>\nit could only issue recommendations to the governor.<\/p>\n<p>City Transportation Council members:<\/p>\n<p>Name                           Occupation<br>\n 1.
