        "content": "<p>&apos;Trans TV&apos; becomes seventh private network on air<\/p>\n<p>Annastashya Emmanuelle, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>Another private television station, Trans TV, aired its<br>\ninaugural broadcast on Friday, becoming the seventh local private<br>\ntelevision station on-air today.<\/p>\n<p>Seventy percent of its programming schedule will be filled by<br>\nentertainment shows, mainly imported but with the addition of<br>\nlocal talk shows and interactive quizzes, while the remainder of<br>\nits air time will be devoted to news.<\/p>\n<p>Friday&apos;s broadcast was aired in the Greater Jakarta area and<br>\nBandung, with plans to cover cities such as Surabaya, Yogyakarta,<br>\nSemarang, Surakarta and Medan from December.<\/p>\n<p>For its initial broadcasts, Trans TV will be on air for six<br>\nhours a day until December, mainly presenting local talk shows,<br>\nmusic video clips and quizzes, said a member of the station&apos;s<br>\nmarketing staff who refused to be named.<\/p>\n<p>The station is being run by some of the television industry&apos;s<br>\nbig names, such as Ishadi SK and Alex Kumara.<\/p>\n<p>Three other private television stations are currently gearing<br>\nup for their inaugural broadcasts, namely LaTV, TV7, and Global<br>\nTV.<\/p>\n<p>The government has imposed a deadline of October 2001 for the<br>\nprivate stations to begin broadcasting.  Failure to meet the<br>\ndeadline will result in the stations having their licenses<br>\nrevoked and their Rp 1 billion guarantees forfeited.<\/p>\n<p>To avoid the government&apos;s penalty, TV7 had broadcast a test<br>\npattern since Monday while preparing for its experimental<br>\nbroadcast on Nov. 25, said the station&apos;s news manager Nugroho F.<br>\nYudho.<\/p>\n<p>TV7, owned by the Kompas-Gramedia group, plans to start with a<br>\nfive hour broadcast in November before moving to a 16 hour daily<br>\nschedule following its grand launch in early April next year.<\/p>\n<p>Similar to Trans TV, TV7&apos;s will present mainly entertainment<br>\nprograms with 25 percent of its air time devoted to news<br>\nbroadcasts.  The main target of the station were up-market<br>\nfamilies, with some programs included to accommodate the lower<br>\nand middle class viewer, Nugroho explained.<\/p>\n<p>LaTV is owned by former manpower minister Abdul Latif, while<br>\nBimantara Group owns Global TV.<\/p>",
