In relation to the underground transit system to connect Blok
\nM and Kota downtown in Jakarta I would like to ask a question.
\nWho is this system for? If it is meant for wholesale traders and
\nbuyers, these people are not living on this line.<\/p>\n
Trains are meant to be affordable transportation, although an
\nexecutive carriage is often attached which is more expensive. For
\nexample, on the Jakarta-Bandung train, a passenger traveling in
\nthe executive carriage is charged Rp 25,000. But the Jakarta-
\nBanjar train, running on the same track and covering a distance
\ntwice that of Jakarta-Bandung, costs only Rp 5,000. Less
\nfortunate people have benefited from the existence of \"ordinary\"
\ntrains.<\/p>\n
A ticket on the Jakarta underground transit system is expected
\nto cost Rp 1,800. This would be a disaster for low paid workers.
\nWe do not need to follow Singapore's example. Singapore has a
\nvery limited space and workers there have the capability of
\npaying the fares. I think the project should be canceled
\nconsidering the huge costs involved and lack of supporting
\nfactors.<\/p>\n
