Trains delayed by flooding<\/p>\n
BANDUNG: The trains passing the northern route of Java were
\ndelayed for at least four hours due to continuing torrential rain
\nand floods in Central Java, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI)
\nspokesman Gatot Wibowo said here on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\"Since Friday afternoon the railway tracks at Semarang Kota
\n(in Central Java) have been inundated due to torrential rain, at
\na height of some 30 centimeters above the ground,\" Gatot said.<\/p>\n
A seven-kilometer-long length of railway track connecting
\nseveral stations such as Semarang Kota and Poncol has been
\nsubmerged, forcing the company to operate 159 diesel-operated
\ntrains to overcome the problem.<\/p>\n
\"Trains with special cars are needed to pass the inundated
\ntracks and it will take time since the trains have to slow down
\nwhen passing the slippery track.<\/p>\n
\"As of Sunday afternoon the water level on Jl. Ronggowarsito
\nnear the Semarang station had reached 50 centimeters high.<\/p>\n
\"So we are uncertain about this situation. If the rains
\ncontinue, the ground will be eroded and it's impossible for the
\ntrains to pass over unstable ground,\" Gatot said. (25\/edt)<\/p>",
