Train raid OK, service questionable<\/p>\n

The recent raid launched by the state railway company PT
\nKereta Api Indonesia (KAI) against passengers traveling without
\ntickets, particularly for electric and diesel trains (KRL\/KRD),
\ndeserves support, although it should have been conducted by KAI's
\nown personnel instead of the police.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, KAI should review its policies that harm
\npublic interests. For instance, ticket prices have been raised
\nwhile public services have experienced a decline rather than
\nimprovement. Passengers' comfort is not guaranteed, the number of
\nrail cars is insufficient and departure\/arrival schedules are not
\nproperly kept.<\/p>\n
Besides which, KAI also needs to consider the following
\nmatters: Banning students prone to be involved in brawls,
\nregulating hawkers so as not to disturb passengers, requiring
\nconductors to bring along reserve tickets to prevent bribery,
\nmaintaining proper lighting to deter pickpockets and prohibiting
\nstreet singers and beggars who have criminal intent.<\/p>\n
