Train passengers stranded in Depok<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Hundreds of passengers on two electric trains
\nserving the Bogor-Jakarta route were stranded outside Old Depok
\nstation for hours on Thursday due to a severed electricity cable.<\/p>\n
\"To all passengers traveling to Jakarta, we would like to
\napologize as the trains cannot depart due to an electrical
\nfault,\" an official announced repeatedly, as reported by Antara.<\/p>\n
As a result, the passengers of the two trains -- each
\nconsisting of eight cars -- had to wait for hours before they
\ncould continue their journey.<\/p>\n
The chaotic situation was made even more unbearable by the
\nstifling heat and crying of babies.<\/p>\n
The problem started when a train was forced to halt about 100
\nmeters after it left New Depok station because the electricity
\ncable was severed.<\/p>\n
The gantry carrying the cable above the line was bent and it
\nis thought that this was what led to the severing of the cable.<\/p>\n
Because of the sudden halt, a teenager who was riding on the
\nroof of the train was tossed to the ground. Seriously injured, he
\nwas rushed to the nearest hospital.<\/p>\n
An official with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (the state-owned
\nrailroad company) said that it would take some time to repair the
\nbroken cable. Until it was repaired, only one line, instead of
\nthe normal two, could be used by trains.<\/p>",
