Train crash still being probed<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Officials are still investigating the cause of a
\ntrain accident that took place Saturday near the small Sadang
\nrailway station in Purwakarta, West Java, and which disrupted
\ntraffic up to yesterday.<\/p>\n
\"It is still too early to speculate on the cause of the
\naccident and we should wait for the result of the investigation
\nby the technical team,\" said Roni Wahyudi, local official of
\nstate railway company, Antara reported yesterday.<\/p>\n
Based on a preliminary investigation, Minister of
\nTransportation Haryanto Dhanutirto said Saturday the Bandung-
\nbound Parahyangan train was moving at 20 km\/h when it hit the
\nother Parahyangan train, which was waiting on a section of double
\ntrack for the first train to pass.<\/p>\n
Both locomotives, and three cars from the moving train, were
\nbadly damaged in the crash.<\/p>\n
Rail traffic between Jakarta and Bandung was halted for about
\nsix hours on Saturday, and despite reports to the contrary,
\ntraffic had not returned to normal yesterday.<\/p>\n
Sixteen trains usually travel in each direction daily.<\/p>\n
Roni said that both of the locomotives' drivers, who were
\nunharmed because they were able to jump out before the cash, were
\nstill being questioned by Purwakarta police.<\/p>\n
As reported earlier, the collision left seven people seriously
\ninjured and 46 others suffered minor injuries.<\/p>\n
Up to yesterday afternoon, dozens of railway employees were
\nstill hard at work trying to clear the two locomotives from the
