Tragedy in Ambon<\/p>\n

The bloody tragedy at dawn in Ambon on March 1 has borne
\nwitness to the arbitrariness of members of the security forces.
\nWe do not know what their motives were and what their punishment
\nwill be. If the crimes had been committed by the civilian
\ncommunity against security forces, in less than a week the
\npunishment would have been known. Open slaughter under the guise
\nof religion happened. We were only spectators who did not do much
\nabout it.<\/p>\n
Even the NGO activists always shouting about human rights are
\nsilent now. Where are the students who have regularly
\ndemonstrated against injustice? Where are the high officials and
\nthe politicians who uttered their promises? Have we all become
\ndeaf, dumb and blind?<\/p>\n
I do not know what kind of awareness this nation has, or what
\nfeeling for brotherhood it has. When riots broke out in East
\nTimor -- they were clearly not linked to religion -- all NGOs,
\nstudents and security personnel, even politicians, competed with
\neach other to voice their opinion that the incident transgressed
\nhuman rights. But when it happens to Muslims, the country's
\nmajority population, all groups seem to have toothache. Silent
\nand dumb, blind and deaf.<\/p>\n
TVRI news and newspaper reports have said that the Ambon riots
\nwere between settlers and indigenous people. Is this true? Oh
\nGod, strengthen the faith of our brothers in Ambon.<\/p>\n
