Traffic victims compensated<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The state-run insurance company, PT Jasa
\nRaharja, has paid Rp 49 million in compensation to the families
\nof traffic accident victims injured during the recent Idul Fitri
\nholiday.<\/p>\n
Beneficiaries of deceased victims were given up to Rp 2
\nmillion per person and those injured were compensated with a
\nmaximum of Rp 1.5 million in medical costs. The compensation
\ncovers 20 dead and 9 injured people.<\/p>\n
Last year, the Jasa Raharja insurance company paid Rp 38
\nmillion to the families of Idul Fitri travelers who were involved
\nin traffic accidents.<\/p>\n
Sources at the company said Tuesday that the peak period of
\nholiday travel this year fell a week prior to and a week after
\nthe Idul Fitri celebrations on Feb. 20 and 21.<\/p>\n
Family members of 26 victims, still grief-stricken by the
\nmishaps that befell their loved ones, received the compensation
\nat the company's branch office in the capital. Compensation
\npayments were also made at branches throughout the country.<\/p>\n
Public transport passengers and drivers involved in traffic
\naccidents are eligible to receive compensation. But private
\nmotorists who cause accidents are not.<\/p>\n
According to a staff member at the insurance company, many
\npassengers are unaware that they have paid for insurance cover
\nwhen they purchase public transport tickets. (14)<\/p>",
