Traffic rerouting

Road users other than would-be pilgrims or their escorts are
\nadvised to take Jl. Jatiwaringin or Jl. Hankam instead of the
\novercrowded Jl. Pondok Gede which is home to the Pilgrim Hostel
\n(Asrama Haji).<\/p>\n
Would-be pilgrims and friends coming from Jl. Raya Bogor are
\nasked to use Jl. Pondok Gede, and to avoid the outer ring roads,
\nthe Ceger intersection and Jl. Hankam TMII.<\/p>\n
Officials hope this will reduce traffic jams around the
\nhostel, which are common during departures and arrivals of
\npilgrims.<\/p>\n
Pilgrims are scheduled to depart from the hostel from April 15
\nto 20 and are expected to return between April 25 and 30.<\/p>\n
The announcement was made yesterday by J.P. Sepang, the head

Jakarta to host
\nvolley ball games<\/p>\n
Jakarta will host an international volley ball tournament on
\nJune 16 to 22 in the Istora Senayan sport hall, South Jakarta,
\nRobert P. Silalahi, the head of the intercity and interprovince
\ncooperation bureau, announced yesterday.<\/p>\n
Teams to take part in \"The First Jakarta Cup Sister Cities
\nVolleyball Tournament\" include student teams from nine cities in
\neight countries.<\/p>\n
The competing teams to play in Group A will be Los Angeles,
\nJakarta A, New South Wales, Casablanca and Tokyo.<\/p>\n
Members of Group B are Jakarta B, Arkansas, Amsterdam, Seoul

Japan helps
\nmedical center<\/p>\n
Minister of Health Sujudi inaugurated the National Medical
\nCenter for Infectious Diseases (NAMCID) at Sunter yesterday.<\/p>\n
According to Sujudi, the center is expected to provide not only
\nclinical services for the public but also training, research and
\nrelevant information to professionals.<\/p>\n
Governor of Jakarta Soerjadi Soedirdja as well as Japanese
\nAmbassador to Indonesia Kimio Fujita also attended the opening
\nceremony.<\/p>\n
A statement from the Japanese embassy faxed to The Jakarta Post
\nsays that the construction of the center has been completed with
\na Japanese grant amounting to Rp 51.5 billion (approximately US$

Agribusiness for
\nJakarta farmers<\/p>\n
The Jakarta administration is urging its farmers to aim their
\nwork at growing decorative plants, orchids and tropical fishes,
\nrather than crops.<\/p>\n
Deputy-governor TB Rais said on Wednesday in a meeting with
\nfarmers at Rawa Belong, West Jakarta, that Jakarta's farming
\nplots are too small for growing crops.<\/p>\n
\"It won't give enough benefit,\" Rais was quoted by Antara as
\nsaying.<\/p>\n
He said that economically commodities such as decorative
\nplants and tropical fishes have more promising values than crops.<\/p>\n
The West Jakarta mayor said that there are currently around
\n11,000 farmers in his mayoralty. (09)<\/p>\n
New one-way traffic
\nin West Jakarta<\/p>\n
In a bid to handle the congestion on Jl. Tanjung Duren Utara
\nVIII and Jl. Jembatan Besi XII in West Jakarta, the city
\nadministration will introduce one-way traffic at those areas.<\/p>\n
Head of the Jakarta chapter of the Ministry of Transportation J.P.
\nSepang said yesterday that the new one-way regulation would be
\npartly imposed on both Jl. Tanjung Duren Utara VIII and Jl.
\nJembatan Besi XII starting next week.<\/p>\n
The new regulation on Jl. Tanjung Duren Utara will be
\neffective as of April 22 and on Jl. Jembatan Besi XII April 29.<\/p>\n
Sepang noted that some parts of Jl. Jembatan Besi III will
\nalso be one-way.<\/p>\n
Motorists from Jl. Tanjung Duren Utara VIII will have to use
\nJl. Tanjung Duren Utara III-A and Jl. Salak Masir to go to Green
