Traffic policy on rerouting<\/p>\n

Strong controversy reigns over the policy that only vehicles
\nwith at least three occupants are allowed to use Jl. Sudirman and
\nJl. Thamrin between 6:30 and 10 a.m..<\/p>\n
Many persons have voiced the opinion that the policy has
\nproven ineffective and harmful because of the following:
\n1. Under-utilization of the 8-km Sudirman-Thamrin stretch of road
\ncauses enormous congestion in other areas like Jl. Mongunsidi and
\nJl. Tendean in South Jakarta. 2. Excessive deployment of police
\npersonnel for the manning of each roadblock with three or four
\nofficers is wasteful. 3. The widespread practice of children
\nriding along in cars to meet the quota of three is a loss of
\nstudy time. 4. The additional expense to hire extra passengers is
\na heavy burden on motorists.<\/p>\n
The road traffic and transport agency (DLLAJ) has repeatedly
\nstated that it will maintain the ruling because the ban helps
\nsolve traffic problems. It will also propose that other related
\nagencies extend the restricted zone to Jl. Gadjah Mada and Jl.
\nHayam Wuruk.<\/p>\n
I belong to the large group of road users who would like to
\nsee the ruling abolished. I herewith make an appeal to the agency
\nchief (Kepala Dinas DLLAJ) of the city administration to change
\nhis stance.<\/p>\n
