During the Eid al-Fitr homecoming period, vehicle traffic peaked at 270,000 vehicles by Thursday morning, marking a 4.26% increase from the previous year, prompting the implementation of contraflow measures on the Cikampek Toll Road. The Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed elevated toll road was temporarily closed for 1.5 hours to support these traffic engineering efforts, which have now been lifted with smooth flow reported. Traffic accident rates have dropped significantly by 2.8%, and fatalities by 40% compared to last year, with authorities urging drivers to remain cautious as the peak has passed.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic
Corps (Kakorlantas), Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho,
revealed that the vehicle volume during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming
period reached 270,000 vehicles by Thursday morning.

“From the data, the peak flow from 18 March (Wednesday) until this
morning (Thursday) was 270,000,” he said at the Command Centre Post at
KM 29 of the Cikampek Toll Road, West Java, on Thursday.

This figure, he added, increased by around 4.26 per cent compared to
the same period last year, which recorded 258,000 vehicles.

Therefore, the Traffic Corps has implemented contraflow traffic
engineering starting from KM 36.

“Earlier, we carried out contraflow on one lane up to 47. After there
was still more traffic generation, from 47 we extended it to 48, that’s
two lanes. From 48, we created another contraflow on lane three up to
70. Up to 70, of course, towards Trans Java, alhamdulillah, it’s smooth
because we have implemented the national one-way system,” he said.

In that process, he continued, the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed (MBZ)
elevated toll road was temporarily closed for approximately 1.5 hours to
support the contraflow implementation.

Currently, the MBZ toll road has been reopened and traffic is flowing
smoothly.

Furthermore, the two-star police general stated that the traffic
accident rate has been recorded to have decreased significantly by 2.8
per cent up to the seventh day of Operation Ketupat 2026 compared to the
seventh day of Operation Ketupat 2025.

Meanwhile, the fatality rate of deaths has dropped significantly by
up to 40 per cent compared to the same period last year.

“Hopefully, until the end of Operation Ketupat, we can maintain
this,” he said.

“And we hope that fellow homecoming travellers must be careful and
patient. The peak flow has passed, just a few per cent left for us to
secure,” he added.
",
