The problem of traffic congestion indeed seems difficult to
\nsolve, despite all the efforts made by the police. This is
\ncertainly true for Jl. Tomang Raya, where to this day, jams are
\nnormal daily occurrences. From 6:00 a.m. to 10:OO a.m. and also
\nduring certain hours in the evening, motorists have to take a
\nroundabout route to get to this street. Yet jams still occur,
\nalthough to a lesser degree.<\/p>\n
I think one reason for this is the ill timing of the traffic
\nlight at one end of Jl. Tomang Raya. Every time it appears, the
\nred light seems to stay on for too long, while the green light
\nlights up for too brief a duration. I call on the police to
\nconsider resetting the timing of all traffic lights along this
\nparticular street so that they are better synchronized.<\/p>\n
Heavy traffic congestion also occurs regularly in the Ciputat
\narea, especially near the entry to the PT Sandratex plant
\ncompound, due to construction work. The Ciputat area has long
\nbeen known for its traffic congestion. But what puzzles me in
\nthis particular case is why the road construction work, which is
\nnot really of that big a scale, never seems to get completed.<\/p>\n
I call on everyone who plans to do any construction work on
\nJl. Ciputat to time their projects properly so that the job does
\nnot get extended indefinitely. The traffic congestion in the
\nCiputat area, especially near the Ciputat market, has long been a
\nsource of frustration for many people. After the old Ciputat
\nmarket burned down, plans were made to renovate the market and
\nbuild a shopping mall in its place. The job is still not finished
\nand now causes heavy traffic congestion. Minibus drivers in the
\narea ignore all traffic regulations on the excuse that they have
\nto cover expenses. Police officers in the area can seldom be
\nfound during periods of congestion. Where are they?<\/p>\n
