Traffic jams are rife in large cities. The worst jams hit the
\nbusiness centers and office complexes. Much has been done to
\nsolve this chronic problem. For example, certain areas were made
\n\"becak-free\" zones, and at some other locations the becak
\n(rickshaws) were allowed to operate only within a limited
\nboundary.<\/p>\n
Now rickshaws have been completely abolished in Jakarta. But
\ntraffic jams still dog the capital. Even the toll roads are
\naffected.<\/p>\n
The government has indeed built more roads. Unfortunately, all
\nattempts to ease congestion have failed, and traffic jams remain.<\/p>\n
I think this is mainly due to the ever-increasing number of
\nvehicles. It is thus necessary to check the increase of private
\ncars, and provide more public transportation.<\/p>\n
Also, the government should consider raising the vehicle
\nownership tax so that only those who can afford to pay large
\namounts of tax can possess private cars. This measure may be bad
\nfor the automotive companies, but the interest of the majority of
\npeople must be put above individual interests. The art in life is
\nto find the best solution to problems.<\/p>\n
