The West Java Police Traffic Directorate reported a significant 76% decrease in traffic accidents during the 2026 Eid exodus and return period compared to the previous year, with incidents falling from 383 to 93 and fatalities dropping 89% to 13. This positive trend is attributed to heightened public awareness and adherence to traffic rules, as highlighted by the director during an inspection at a toll rest area. Authorities continue to manage return traffic smoothly, implementing one-way systems where necessary and urging drivers to utilise rest areas for safety.

The West Java Police Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas Polda Jawa Barat)
has reported a significant decline in the number of traffic accidents
during the 2026 Eid exodus and return period. This decrease occurred
during the implementation of Operation Ketupat Lodaya 2026 compared to
the same period the previous year.

The Head of Traffic Directorate of West Java Police, Commissioner
Raydian Kokrosono, revealed that this positive trend indicates an
increase in public awareness regarding traffic conduct.

“The accident figures have dropped by up to 76 percent,” said the
Head of Traffic Directorate of West Java Police, Commissioner Raydian
Kokrosono, while inspecting the return flow at the Rest Area KM 62 on
the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road in Karawang on Sunday (29/3).

Police data shows that the number of accidents in the jurisdiction of
the West Java Police in 2026 reached only 93 incidents. This figure is a
drastic decrease compared to 2025, which recorded 383 incidents.

In addition, the number of fatalities also experienced a sharp
decline. From 121 people in 2025, it is now recorded at only 13
fatalities, or a drop of 89 percent. The downward trend also occurred in
serious injuries, which decreased by 46 percent, and minor injuries,
which fell by up to 73 percent.

“Alhamdulillah, this is thanks to the prayers and participation of
the entire community who are willing to follow the rules and
instructions of officers in the field,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Eid return traffic conditions up to Sunday night
(29/3) were observed to be starting to flow more smoothly. Based on
traffic counting data from Central Java, the vehicle volume was recorded
to have decreased to below 2,500 units per hour. Nevertheless, traffic
engineering in the form of a one-way system from Central Java to Jakarta
is still applied situationally.

On arterial routes, particularly in the Cirebon area, there was
temporary slowing of vehicle flow. This was influenced by the
implementation of the one-way system on the toll road and local
community activities. However, the police assured that there was no
total congestion because officers had been deployed at vulnerable points
such as Simpang Buntet.

The Head of Traffic Directorate also reminded return travellers to
utilise the available rest area facilities. Based on monitoring via the
Jasa Marga application, the parking capacity at rest areas on routes A
and B is still sufficient.

“We advise the public to please utilise the rest areas. Do not force
driving when tired. If the rest areas are full, we will escort and
arrange on the roadside for humanitarian reasons, so that the public
remains safe,” he added.

The police also emphasised their commitment to continue optimising
traffic flow management so that the return journey to Jakarta remains
smooth and safe for the entire community.
",
