        "content": "<p>Traditional markets still quiet<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>Many housewives were forced to shop in supermarkets on Monday as<br>\nmost vendors in traditional markets had yet to start operating<br>\nagain after the long holiday.<\/p>\n<p>Sudarmi, 45, who was interviewed at the Carrefour supermarket<br>\nin Cempaka Mas, Central Jakarta, said that she usually bought<br>\nvegetables at Bulog market in Rawasari, Central Jakarta, which<br>\nwas located just 200 meters from her home.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The market has been closed for three days so I have to come<br>\nhere to buy vegetables,&quot; she told Antara.<\/p>\n<p>She added that there were a few vendors operating in Bulog<br>\nmarket but there was nothing left for her to buy as everything<br>\nhad been sold out.<\/p>\n<p>Asep, who sells coconuts in a traditional market, admitted<br>\nthat the supply of coconuts as well as vegetables from Sukabumi,<br>\nWest Java, had dried up over the past four days due to the<br>\nholiday.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile Siti Hidayah, a housewife who lives in Pulomas, East<br>\nJakarta, also complained about the shortage of vegetables at the<br>\ntraditional market in her area.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We are in trouble. This Lebaran holiday we have to keep on<br>\ncooking, while the food in the refrigerator is almost finished,&quot;<br>\nshe said.<\/p>\n<p>She also grumbled about price hikes for vegetables and other<br>\ncommodities, saying that a small bag of chili, which used to cost<br>\nRp 3,000, had soared to Rp 5,000.<\/p>\n<p>The second floor of the Pasar Pagi market in Rawamangun, East<br>\nJakarta, was also quiet as most vendors were still on holiday.<br>\nMany shoppers left disappointed and were forced to go to<br>\nsupermarkets so that they would not have to return home empty-<br>\nhanded.<\/p>",
