        "content": "<p>Traditional drugs harming Malaysians<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Hundreds of brands of unregistered<br>\ntraditional medicines widely available in Malaysia can be deadly<br>\nbecause they contain steroids and poison, Health Minister Chua<br>\nJui Meng said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Chua said the threat was very serious since many people take<br>\neither Malay traditional medicines or imported ones from China,<br>\nIndonesia and the West.<\/p>\n<p>Chua said spot checks on business premises, clinics and<br>\npharmacies last year resulted in the seizure of 720 unregistered<br>\nproducts.<\/p>\n<p>Among the scheduled poisons found in traditional medicines are<br>\nantihistamine, local anesthetic, hormones, lead, mercury,<br>\ndexamethasone and arsenic, he said.<\/p>",
