        "content": "<p>Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Trade Minister Budi Santoso has said his\nministry is still awaiting the Financial Services Authority\u2019s (OJK)\ndecision regarding the list of strategic commodities to be traded\nthrough the Strategic Mineral and Commodity Exchange (BMKS).<\/p>\n<p>Budi said the establishment of the BMKS is currently being prepared\ntogether with the OJK. The Trade Ministry, he said, is also involved\nthrough the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti).<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the preparation process for the exchange involves\nforming a cross-agency team, including with Danantara. The discussion\npattern is said to be similar to the process of establishing the\nprevious crypto asset exchange.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(The Trade Ministry) is involved. So a team has now been formed with\nthe OJK. The OJK with us through Bappebti, and we have also met with\nDanantara. We are forming a team like before when it came to crypto\nproducts, we also had a team,\u201d Budi said when met at his office in\nJakarta on Thursday (27\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, Budi said the government has not yet finalised which\ncommodities will be included in the BMKS. He said the decision will\nultimately rest with the OJK through special regulations currently being\nprepared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo later there will be special regulations from the OJK on which\nstrategic commodities will be included. We are still waiting to see what\nthe OJK will decide,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Palm Oil on the List, What Would Be the Impact?<\/p>\n<p>One commodity currently drawing attention is palm oil, or crude palm\noil (CPO). The commodity is currently traded through the Indonesia\nCommodity and Derivatives Exchange (ICDX), but is also being discussed\nfor inclusion in the BMKS.<\/p>\n<p>Budi confirmed that the Trade Ministry will provide support in the\nprocess of establishing the exchange. The Trade Ministry\u2019s role is\ncarried out through Bappebti, while the operation and provisions of the\nBMKS refer to the financial sector regulatory framework.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn principle, we are ready to help, assist, or provide support for\nthe establishment of the new exchange. Because the OJK will ultimately\ndecide, and we will continue to help,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>For context, the establishment of the BMKS is part of strengthening\nthe strategic commodity trading ecosystem, referring to Law Number 4 of\n2023 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (UU\nP2SK).<\/p>\n<p>The government is targeting the BMKS to begin operations on 1 January\n2027. CPO is one of the strategic commodities said to be included in the\nexchange.<\/p>",
