TPJ repairs old valves<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Tap water joint venture PT Thames PAM Jaya (TPJ)
\nis repairing and undertaking maintenance work on main pipe valves
\nfor the first time since they were installed 80 years ago.<\/p>\n
The company's trunk mains manager Horas Batubara said in a
\nstatement that the repair work was aimed at improving water
\nquality and pressure and reducing wastage.<\/p>\n
Horas added the pipe network maintenance and upgrade were part
\nof the company's target of providing potable water for consumers
\nbeginning 2007.<\/p>\n
One of the repair jobs being undertaken is at the busy
\nintersection between Jl. Matraman, Jl. Pramuka, Jl. Salemba and
\nJl. Proklamasi, where five main valves with a diameter of 450
\nmillimeters each were installed between 1919 and 1921. These
\nvalves control the water flow to the subdistricts of Kenari,
\nPaseban, Kramat and Senen.<\/p>\n
Horas said the repair work included valve chamber dismantling,
\nnut replacement, rubber packing, gland packing, valve saucer
\ncleaning and, if necessary, replacement of spindles, nut spindles
\nand cover packing.<\/p>\n
The project involves more than 50 technicians who will have to
\ncomplete their work within 14 hours.<\/p>",
