Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 2026 Social Inclusion-Based Library\nTransformation Programme (TPBIS) has successfully changed perspectives\non libraries and has reached millions of people.<\/p>\n
The Head of the National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas), E.\nAminudin Aziz, stated that TPBIS emphasises cross-sector collaboration\nand the spirit of \u2018gotong royong\u2019 (mutual cooperation). Since its\nimplementation in 20lar 2018, TPBIS has cumulatively reached\napproximately 13.9 million people.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are witnessing people coming to libraries with a new\ndetermination to improve their literacy skills in order to transform\ntheir welfare status for the better. Libraries are transforming into\nmore productive and creative spaces to enhance the quality of life,\u201d\nAminudin said in an official statement in Jakarta on Sunday.<\/p>\n
He explained that in 2026, the TPBIS programme will be implemented\nacross 750 locations. Nevertheless, Perpusnas continues to encourage the\nreplication of the programme in various regions through local government\ninitiatives and support from stakeholders.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe idea for TPBIS comes from the central government, but its\nimplementation remains at the village level, supported by the community\nas the subjects of this activity, because the ultimate goal is the\ncollective improvement of quality of life. This is the essence of\ncollaboration, partnership, and the value of mutual cooperation,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
He also expressed hope that there would be no perception that\nregional libraries are taking over the duties of other regional\ngovernment agencies, as libraries are actually presenting innovations\nthat benefit the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cDo not view it as the duties of other departments being taken over\nby regional libraries; rather, libraries want to present an innovation\non how the value of mutual cooperation can be realised through\ncross-sector partnerships with the ultimate goal of increasing community\nwelfare,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
On the same occasion, author and public figure Gita Wirjawan\nemphasised the importance of reading culture, documentation, and the\ndistribution of knowledge as the foundation of civilisational progress.\nHe assessed that Indonesia and the Southeast Asian region still face\nchallenges in documenting the wealth of knowledge and wisdom possessed\nby their people.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Deputy for Human, Social, and Cultural Development at\nthe Ministry of National Development Planning\/Bappenas, Pungkas Bahjuri\nAli, stated that strengthening literacy through libraries is a vital\npart of human resource development towards \u2018Indonesia Emas 2045\u2019 (Golden\nIndonesia 2045).
