Andy Muhkerjee's economic analysis in The International Herald
\nTribune that the rupiah needs to temporarily be replaced by
\ndollar and that islands should be leased, is a great idea. But
\nour over-nationalistic politicians might disagree with this
\nconcept.<\/p>\n
Another theory (Omahe Kenichi) suggests that the enterprises
\nare not necessarily owned by Indonesian nationals. Because
\nthe most important thing is that the people can be safely
\nemployed in a stable company, have a decent life, even though the
\ncompany is owned by a foreign national.<\/p>\n
Still, yet another theory from Teng Hsiao Peng stresses that
\nno matter whether the cat is black or white, it should be able to
\ncatch a mouse.<\/p>\n
So, be rational please, Mr. President, in your efforts to
\nsurmount the economic crises; no need to be over-nationalistic by
\nsticking to the idea that \"even if the people live miserably, let
\nus not sell our dignity\". This notion should be cast aside for
\nthe sake of the people's interest.<\/p>\n
Our proposal is: Lease one of our uninhabited islands to
\nTaiwan, which has a huge capital, but whose political situation
\nis under pressure. The leasing period should be 90 years with
\nprofit sharing of 30 percent under the international legal
\nsystem.<\/p>\n
The link between the Indonesian government and the leasing
\ngovernment could be similar to that between China and Hong Kong
\npost British administration era.<\/p>\n
Until the Indonesian currency is stable and inflation
\nsurmountable and the country's economy in good shape, for the
\ntime being, Indonesia should use dollars just like Riau did in
\nthe past.<\/p>\n
