Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism has stated that it is\ndrawing up and strengthening cross-sector strategies to develop health\ntourism in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is now time to strengthen collaboration between the tourism\nindustry and the health industry so that we can create a mutually\nsupportive ecosystem,\u201d said Rizki Handayani, Acting Deputy for Industry\nand Investment at the Ministry of Tourism, in an official statement\nconfirmed in Jakarta on Friday.<\/p>\n
The strategy was discussed together with the Ministry of Health, the\nDKI Jakarta Provincial Health Office, the DKI Jakarta Tourism and\nCreative Economy Office, the Indonesian Private Hospitals Association\n(ARSSI), the Indonesian Hospital Association (PERSI), and hospital\nrepresentatives at a meeting held in Jakarta on Wednesday (23 July).<\/p>\n
With growing public interest in fitness tourism, particularly in the\ndomestic market, Indonesia has a major opportunity to develop health\ntourism as one of its flagship tourism products. As an initial step, the\nMinistry of Tourism, together with the Ministry of Health, PERSI and\nARSSI, has mapped hospitals with the potential to be developed as health\ntourism destinations.<\/p>\n
A total of 18 hospitals, comprising 15 in the Greater Jakarta\n(Jabodetabek) area and three in Bali, have been designated as pilot\nprojects. Among the hospitals included in the pilot project are Pondok\nIndah Hospital, Hermina Kemayoran, BIMC Nusa Dua, Mayapada Lebak Bulus,\nSiloam Semanggi, Pondok Indah Bintaro Hospital and Siloam Karawaci.<\/p>\n
The 18 hospitals will also be featured in a health tourism catalogue\ncurrently being compiled by the Ministry of Tourism, which is targeted\nfor completion in October 2026 as a promotional medium for Indonesian\nhealth tourism services.<\/p>\n
Each hospital will undergo a comprehensive mapping process, from\ncompiling profiles of its flagship services to calculating estimated\nhealth tourism packages.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Health will then conduct\nfield surveys to develop parameters for centres of excellence, which\nwill become the distinctive strengths of each hospital.<\/p>\n
Collaboration will be carried out with the hotel sector, tour\noperators, travel agents, patient-friendly transport providers,\nincluding transport services with wheelchair facilities, as well as\ndomestic and foreign insurance companies.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis stage is part of efforts to build an integrated health tourism\necosystem through collaboration between healthcare facilities, tourism\nbusinesses and various relevant stakeholders,\u201d said Rizki.<\/p>\n
Yanti Herman, Director of Referral Health Services Development at the\nMinistry of Health, added that hospitals designated as pilot projects\nwill be asked to conduct self-assessments to measure their readiness to\ndevelop medical tourism services, while at the same time strengthening\ntheir commitment to improving service quality oriented towards the\npatient experience.<\/p>\n
