Jakarta \u2014 Indonesia\u2019s Tourism Ministry and Statistics Bureau (BPS)\nare strengthening synergy in developing Tourism Satellite Account (TSA)\ndata to better measure tourism sector performance.<\/p>\n
Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated that tourism\u2019s\ncontribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is a key performance\nindicator for the Tourism Ministry, making TSA data availability crucial\nfor measuring tourism sector achievements.<\/p>\n
During an online meeting with BPS on Monday 16 March, Widiyanti noted\nthat whilst tourism\u2019s GDP contribution is a vital performance indicator,\nthe current two-year data release lag means the most recent figures do\nnot fully reflect the tourism sector\u2019s current conditions. Based on this\napproach, tourism\u2019s GDP contribution for 2025 is estimated at 3.97\npercent.<\/p>\n
The Tourism Ministry is strengthening strategic collaboration with\nBPS to ensure more current, accurate, and responsive tourism sector data\nthat serves national policy needs. BPS is expected to accelerate the\ncalculation process for 2025 tourism GDP contribution or present\nalternative statistical approaches enabling more timely measurement. The\nTourism Ministry is also promoting implementation of Passenger Exit\nSurveys (PES), which are critical for calculating foreign tourist\nspending or inbound tourism consumption, including at international\nairport executive lounges.<\/p>\n
Coordination has been undertaken with lounge operators, including IAS\nHospitality, which manages Sapphire Executive Lounge and Concordia\nExecutive Lounge, as well as Garuda Executive Lounge. Both lounge\noperators have approved PES implementation, with specific mechanisms to\nfollow established procedures.<\/p>\n
Beyond strengthening tourism GDP data, both parties agreed to\ncooperate on developing tourism employment statistics for 2025, planned\nto be formalised through a Cooperation Agreement signature in late March\n2026. Tourism employment calculations for 2025 will continue using the\nStandard Indonesian Business Classification (KBLI) 2015 to maintain\nconsistency with National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN)\ntargets.<\/p>\n
BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti explained that Indonesia\u2019s TSA\nis compiled using the TSA: Recommended Methodological Framework (RMF)\nand references the International Recommendations for Tourism Statistics\n(IRTS), making the process complex as it involves multiple sectoral data\nsources.<\/p>\n
Amalia added that the tourism and creative economy sectors have been\ndesignated as crucial new economic growth drivers for Indonesia,\nentering the Main Development Indicators in Law No.\u00a059 of 2024 on the\nNational Long-Term Development Plan 2025\u20132045.
