Tourism foundation to be created<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Ministry of Tourism, Post and
\nTelecommunications will set up a tourism foundation by the end of
\nthis year to provide tourism scholarships to both senior high
\nschool and college students.<\/p>\n
\"Human resources are very important for the development of the
\ncountry's tourism industry,\" Minister of Tourism, Post and
\nTelecommunications Joop Ave told reporters after receiving
\nstudents from the Bandung-based Institute of Tourism at his
\noffice yesterday.<\/p>\n
He said he will ask several ministers, such as Minister of
\nEducation and Culture Wardiman Djojonegoro and Coordinating
\nMinister for Political Affairs and Security Soesilo Soedarman,
\nwho is a former minister of tourism, post and telecommunications,
\nto join the foundation's board of advisors.<\/p>\n
He said a number of businessmen, including noted hotelier
\nSukamdani Sahid Gitosardjono and tycoon Sudwikatmono, are
\ncommitted to providing scholarships for up to 5,100 students.<\/p>\n
Joop said that before the year 2000, Indonesia will likely
\nneed some 10,000 professionals to work in the tourism industry.<\/p>\n
The ministry has recently established a Technical Education
\nFoundation to provide scholarships to the students of the
\ntelecommunications institute. (icn)<\/p>",
