        "content": "<p>Kawasaki, Japan \u2013 Toshiba Electronic Devices &amp; Storage\nCorporation (\u201cToshiba\u201d) has commenced mass production of the M4L\nEntry-Class TXZ+\u2122 Family, a group of compact microcontrollers equipped\nwith Arm\u00ae Cortex\u00ae\u2011M4 cores and a floating-point unit (FPU). These are\nintended for next-generation household appliances, consumer products,\nand industrial equipment.<\/p>\n<p>With the increasing demand for energy efficiency, compact design, IoT\nconnectivity, and improved maintainability in modern appliances, there\nis a growing need for motor control microcontrollers that offer high\nprecision and reliability. Toshiba\u2019s new products are specifically\nengineered for single motor control applications, integrating\nspecialised motor control hardware, security functions, and functional\nsafety measures into a single chip. By offloading motor control\nprocessing to dedicated hardware, CPU load is reduced, enabling highly\nefficient and precise motor control.<\/p>\n<p>The microcontrollers are built on the Arm\u00ae Cortex\u00ae\u2011M4 core with FPU,\noperating at frequencies up to 80MHz. They support a supply voltage\nrange of 2.7V to 5.5V, ensuring compatibility with existing 3V and 5V\nsystems while providing high design flexibility. The series is available\nin four small package types ranging from 44 to 64 pins with two\ndifferent memory configurations. The integration of a high-speed\noscillator with \u00b11% accuracy and an overcurrent detection comparator for\nemergency motor shutdown reduces the need for external components and\nminimises circuit board area. Additionally, a low-power STOP2 mode\nsupports battery-powered applications.<\/p>\n<p>The 256KB models utilise dual-bank flash memory, allowing one program\nto run while another is being rewritten, which facilitates over-the-air\n(OTA) firmware updates without interrupting system operations. The 128KB\nmodels include 64KB of data flash memory for log storage and\nconfiguration management.<\/p>\n<p>For enhanced security, the microcontrollers feature Chip Protection\n(CPRO), Secure Access Memory (SAM), and Non-rewritable Flash Protection\n(NRFP) to prevent unauthorised access and protect critical areas, which\nis vital for IoT devices. The microcontrollers also include versatile\ncommunication interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, and SMIF for external\nmemory connectivity. Functional safety measures include anomaly\ndetection in flash memory, RAM, ADC, and the clock system. Toshiba also\nprovides certified software compliant with UL 60730 Class B, a\nfunctional safety standard for household appliances, to assist customers\nwith the certification process.<\/p>\n<p>Toshiba supports the evaluation and development process by providing\nproduct documentation, sample software, and driver software.
