Top soccer official's resignation regretted<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A top official of the All-Indonesia Football
\nAssociation yesterday lamented the plan to resign by
\nthe association's league and competition manager Ismet Tahir.<\/p>\n
Nugraha Besoes, secretary-general of the soccer body, said
\nyesterday that although he had already received a formal letter
\nof resignation from Ismet, no final decision has been taken by
\nthe association.<\/p>\n
\"The issue is now receiving our full attention, and we expect
\nto reach a happy ending when Ismet meets the chairman in the near
\nfuture,\" Nugraha said.<\/p>\n
\"Ismet has been an undisputed key figure in our soccer
\norganization for the past decade. As one of the association's
\nnewer staff members, I feel we remain in need of his services,\"
\nsaid Nugraha.<\/p>\n
Ismet made the headlines recently when his letter to the
\nchairman of the soccer body, Azwar Anas, asking for early
\nretirement was leaked.<\/p>\n
In his letter Ismet said that he could not accept a procedural
\nviolation in the association's decision to let Jakarta club
\nPelita Jaya secure talented striker Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto, who
\nwrapped up his two-year contract with Swiss premiership side
\nLucerne last month.<\/p>\n
According to the association's rules, Kurniawan should have
\nreceived an International Transfer Certificate before being
\ndeclared a Pelita Jaya player. The association, however,
\nconfirmed Pelita's acquisition of the 20-year-old player in its
\ndecree issued in mid June without the mandatory certificate.<\/p>\n
Kurniawan is now heading for the Italian Serie A club
\nSampdoria following a three-year deal and a US$50,000 transfer
\nfee.<\/p>\n
Nugraha said that Azwar has yet to set a date to talk with
\nIsmet but confirmed that the chairman has received Ismet's
\nletter.<\/p>\n
Another official heated up the resignation row by saying that
\nfour more top executives are likely to follow in the footsteps of
\nIsmet.<\/p>\n
He identified the officials as foreign affairs commissioner
\nNabon Noor, competition director Iswadi Idris, youth league
\ndirector Sinyo Aliandu and league director Karnadi Siregar. (amd)<\/p>",
