Top policeman's cars tested for emission<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: In an attempt to set an example to the public,
\nJakarta Police Headquarters arranged on Saturday to test the
\nemission of some vehicles in its compound.<\/p>\n
"This program is initiated by the Appreciation of Clean
\nEmission (AEB) organization, to which the city police belongs. We
\nhave agreed to be part of the environmental movement by acting
\nlocally, within our own compounds," city police chief Insp. Gen.
\nMakbul Padmanagara said.<\/p>\n
The headquarters is among 24 institutions that are members of
\nthe AEB. Other members include the Office of the State Minister
\nof the Environment, the University of Indonesia, Plaza Indonesia
\nand Wisma Antara, and industries, such as Kimia Farma, PT Martina
\nBerto and Komatsu.<\/p>\n
The cars of top police officers were among the first to be
\ntested.<\/p>\n
Makbul's official car, a Toyota Camry, passed the test. His
\ncar's emission comprised only 0.08 percent carbon oxide (CO), far
\nbelow the benchmark of 2.5 percent for cars produced after 1996
\nthat use fuel-injection system. -- JP<\/p>",
