        "content": "<p>Top list of illegal workers<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Singaporeans topped the list of illegal<br>\nprofessional and skilled workers in Malaysia last year,<br>\naccounting for more than 50 percent, it was reported here<br>\nSaturday.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Home Minister Megat Junid Megat Ayub said that of<br>\n21,926 cases detected, 11,926 were Singaporeans.<\/p>\n<p>\"We have identified these people and will take action against<br>\nthem soon,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>They not only defied immigration laws but also skipped paying<br>\nlevy and income tax by working while on social visit passes,<br>\nMegat Junid was quoted as saying by The Star newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Singaporeans worked mainly as consultants for<br>\nshipyards, factories and resorts.<\/p>\n<p>They were also appointed as directors in companies and acted<br>\nas consultants in areas of sales and marketing, construction and<br>\nentertainment, Megat Junid said.<\/p>\n<p>Initial investigations revealed that companies which hired<br>\nthese Singaporeans often collaborated with them to defy the law,<br>\nhe said.<\/p>",
