Top list of illegal workers<\/p>\n
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Singaporeans topped the list of illegal
\nprofessional and skilled workers in Malaysia last year,
\naccounting for more than 50 percent, it was reported here
\nSaturday.<\/p>\n
Deputy Home Minister Megat Junid Megat Ayub said that of
\n21,926 cases detected, 11,926 were Singaporeans.<\/p>\n
\"We have identified these people and will take action against
\nthem soon,\" he said.<\/p>\n
They not only defied immigration laws but also skipped paying
\nlevy and income tax by working while on social visit passes,
\nMegat Junid was quoted as saying by The Star newspaper.<\/p>\n
He said the Singaporeans worked mainly as consultants for
\nshipyards, factories and resorts.<\/p>\n
They were also appointed as directors in companies and acted
\nas consultants in areas of sales and marketing, construction and
\nentertainment, Megat Junid said.<\/p>\n
Initial investigations revealed that companies which hired
\nthese Singaporeans often collaborated with them to defy the law,
\nhe said.<\/p>",
