        "content": "<p>Top leaders to meet in Yogyakarta<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): President Abdurrahman Wahid, Vice President<br>\nMegawati Soekarnoputri, Yogyakarta&apos;s Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X<br>\nand People&apos;s Consultative Assembly Speaker Amien Rais are due to<br>\nhold a much anticipated &quot;political reconciliation&quot; meeting in<br>\nYogyakarta on Aug. 1.<\/p>\n<p>It has not yet been confirmed whether House of Representatives<br>\nSpeaker Akbar Tandjung will attend the meeting at the Keraton<br>\nYogyakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Sources said it was likely other &quot;national figures&quot; would be<br>\ninvited to the meeting, but it had not yet been decided who would<br>\nreceive these invitations.<\/p>\n<p>In Bandung, Amien Rais said on Friday night &quot;the meeting will<br>\ndiscuss the latest situation on the political, social and<br>\nsecurity fronts ahead of the General Session (of the Assembly)&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The event should have been held this month but Mbak Mega<br>\ncould not make it due to her tight schedule, so we rescheduled it<br>\nfor Aug. 1,&quot; Amien told journalists.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I realize the four of us cannot claim to represent all 210<br>\nmillion people in the country ... therefore I hope other<br>\npolitical party leaders such as Hamzah Haz, veteran journalists,<br>\nthe Indonesian Military commander and students will share their<br>\nthoughts with us.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We hope the meeting can unify all related parties involved so<br>\nthat the General Session runs smoothly,&quot; Amien said.<\/p>\n<p>Amien said he fully supported the National Police chief&apos;s<br>\nefforts to secure the General Session and urged all parties not<br>\nto organize mass rallies to disrupt the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, sources close to the President told The Jakarta<br>\nPost on Saturday the improved political climate following<br>\nAbdurrahman&apos;s apology to the House had smoothed way for the Aug.<br>\n1 meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The President&apos;s written answer to the House&apos;s interpellation<br>\nmotion changed the political attitude of all members of the<br>\npolitical elite, especially those from the largest political<br>\nparties, the sources said. This has, as of now, made them more<br>\nthan willing to come to the meeting and begin a new national<br>\nreconciliation, they said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The upcoming meeting will have the sole intention of calming<br>\nthe political situation ahead of the General Session,&quot; the<br>\nsources added.<\/p>\n<p>Participants of the meeting will discuss the future of the<br>\nnation and begin to set the vision for total reform in the<br>\ncountry, the sources said.
