        "content": "<p>Top leaders attend Anak Agung cremation<\/p>\n<p>GIANYAR, Bali (JP): Top political leaders put aside party<br>\npolitics for a few hours here on Thursday to pay homage and<br>\nattend the cremation ceremony of the late Ide Anak Agung Gde<br>\nAgung.<\/p>\n<p>Highlighting those in attendance at the colorful ceremony were<br>\npresidential hopeful and chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic<br>\nParty of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) Megawati Soekarnoputri, along<br>\nwith Akbar Tandjung of the Golkar Party.<\/p>\n<p>Also seen were Yogyakarta's Governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono<br>\nX, businessman Arifin Panigoro and former Cabinet member<br>\nMoerdiono.<\/p>\n<p>Anak Agung, who served in a multitude of top posts, passed<br>\naway here in April at the age of 78. He died after several weeks<br>\nof treatment at a hospital in Perth, Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Anak Agung, son of the king of Gianyar, was once prime<br>\nminister of the Dutch-puppet East Indonesia State, a minister and<br>\nan ambassador.<\/p>\n<p>He spent his final years in the vast complex of his palace,<br>\nthe Puri Agung Gianyar, in the central part of Gianyar, writing<br>\nbooks and promoting attention among the Hindu intellectual fora<br>\non the survival of Balinese culture.<\/p>\n<p>A secretary and dozens of parekan (courtiers) kept him company<br>\nwhile his four children lived and worked in Jakarta.
