Top general disowns son<\/p>\n
YANGON (AP): Gen. Khin Nyunt, head of military intelligence
\nand one of the four most powerful generals in Myanmar, has
\ndisowned one of his sons.<\/p>\n
Khin Nyunt and his wife Dr. Daw Khin Win Shwe placed an
\nadvertisement in yesterday's state-run New Light of Myanmar
\nannouncing that their son "Dr. Ye Naing Win was disowned by the
\nparents for his inexcusable deed".<\/p>\n
The advertisement, signed by both parents, did not mention the
\nreason for disowning their son. The advertisement requested
\npeople not to "ask the parents about the matter".<\/p>\n
Dr. Ye Naing Win was reported to have married a Singaporean
\nwoman recently. Although many diplomats in Yangon had heard the
\ninformation, none could confirm it with certainty.<\/p>\n
Myanmar's military government is holding a convention to write
\na new constitution for the country. Articles already passed
\nstipulate that Myanmar citizens with a foreign spouse are
\ndisqualified from holding government office. If a citizen's child
\nmarries a foreigner, that also disqualifies the parents from
\nparticipating in government.<\/p>",
