Dedi Kusnadi<br>\nwas cleared of charges that he stole timber confiscated during a<br>\nrecent police operation to combat illegal logging in Papua.<\/p>\n<p>Papua Police chief Insp. Gen. Dodi Sumantyawan said over the<br>\nweekend that after questioning by police investigators, Dedi was<br>\nfound not to have been involved in the disappearance of 5,000<br>\ncubic meters of timber seized during the operation.<\/p>\n<p>Dodi said the logs were transported to Manokwari for<br>\nsafekeeping because police feared illegal logging suspects would<br>\ntry to destroy the evidence.<\/p>\n<p>Four other mid-ranking police officers in Papua are still<br>\nunder investigation for taking bribes from the financial backers<br>\nof illegal logging operations. -- Antara<\/p>",
