Tondo residents demand amends<\/p>\n
PALU, Southeast Sulawesi: Tondo subdistrict residents are
\nthreatening to block the main road leading to Tadulako University
\nunless they receive adequate compensation for land appropriated
\nfrom them 16 years ago.<\/p>\n
The disputed 250-hectare tract of land was used as the site of
\nthe university.<\/p>\n
Community elders led a delegation of about 100 residents to
\npresent their demands to provincial legislators here.<\/p>\n
Tondo community leader Djenman Lingulemba said the land was
\ntaken away from them by force through Gubernatorial Decree No.
\n109\/AL.012\/XI\/1981.<\/p>\n
He added that no compensation was given to residents who had
\nbeen working and living on the land for years.<\/p>\n
He said formal channels pursued to resolve the matter amicably
\nhad failed.<\/p>\n
\"We've really had enough and we're all tired of trying,\" he
\nsaid as quoted by Antara.<\/p>\n
\"If in a week we don't get any compensation for the land which
\nwas forcefully taken away from us, we will close down the main
\nroad, including the main gate,\" he warned.<\/p>\n
No specific amount was mentioned on how much the residents
\nwanted for compensation.<\/p>",
