Tommy's murder charge complete<\/p>\n

Police completed on Sunday their investigation into the
\ninvolvement of Hutomo \"Tommy\" Mandala Putra in the murder of
\nSupreme Court Justice Syafiuddin Kartasasmita.<\/p>\n
Tommy's lawyer Elza Syarif told journalists on Sunday
\nafternoon that she had been informed that police had wrapped up
\ntheir investigation of the case.<\/p>\n
\"It might be ready to be signed later on this evening
\n(Sunday). That's what the investigators told me,\" Elza said.<\/p>\n
This means that eleven days after capturing Tommy, police can
\nnow pursue the two other crimes that police claim Tommy is
\nsuspected of: The illegal possession of arms and masterminding a
\nseries of bomb attacks in the capital.<\/p>\n
Police were not immediately available for confirmation, though
\nthe police had earlier suggested that Tommy could be charged
\nunder Article 340 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum
\npenalty of death.<\/p>\n
There was also no immediate information whether police would
\nimmediately hand over the dossiers to prosecutors, as was usually
\nthe practice, or wait till investigations on the other two are
\ncompleted.<\/p>\n
Elza insisted on Sunday that despite having completed the
\ndossiers, police have yet to present Tommy with any material
\nevidence on his alleged involvement in the case, such as a bullet
\nor a murder weapon.<\/p>\n
\"So far, they have not shown us any evidence that they might
\nhave,\" she remarked.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, senior lawyer Luhut M.P. Pangaribuan expressed
\nconcern of possible legal manipulation, which might eventually
\nstifle attempts to convict Tommy.<\/p>\n
Without giving details, he warned that possible loopholes
\ncould be found in the police investigation, or the judge's final
\nverdict.<\/p>\n
\"There are many possibilities that they (the lawyers) can seek
\nand play with, given a client like Tommy and our prevailing legal
\nconditions,\" Luhut remarked.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that in the past few days the defense had tried
\nto drag big name figures into the case to distract public
\nattention and spread the blame.<\/p>\n
\"For me, that is unethical, very unethical,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Luhut, who is a lawyer for former president Abdurrahman \"Gus
\nDur\" Wahid, said this was happening to his client.<\/p>\n
Tommy's lawyers have just filed a lawsuit against Raden Doddy
\nSumadi for allegedly extorting money from Tommy.<\/p>\n
Doddy is portrayed as a close ally of Abdurrahman who helped
\narrange the infamous meetings between the two.<\/p>\n
Luhut claims that if police do summon Abdurrahman, on the
\ngrounds that Tommy claimed the then president had been a pushing
\nfactor in his escape from conviction, then the police have
\nclearly been deceived into this defense strategy.<\/p>\n
But Abdurrahman's daughter, Zannuba Arifah Chafsoh Rahman,
\nurged police on Sunday to quickly summon her father so the matter
\ncould be cleared up.<\/p>\n
\"Bapak (father) is ready to go to Jakarta Police Headquarters
\n(to testify). He has even asked that the questioning be held in
\nthe near future,\" she said, as quoted by Antara.<\/p>",
