Tommy's chief of security wanted<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Police are currently searching for a man
\nbelieved to be the chief of security for former president
\nSoeharto's fugitive son Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra for
\npossessing molotov cocktails, City Police detective chief Hary
\nMontolalu said on Monday.<\/p>\n
Hary said police have released eight of Tommy's guards
\narrested on Saturday at a house on Jl. Yusuf Adiwinata, Menteng,
\nCentral Jakarta for lack of evidence.<\/p>\n
"We have no strong evidence to detain them further. The nine
\nmolotov cocktails don't belong to the guards," he told reporters.<\/p>\n
The guards told police during their questioning that the
\nexplosives and a bullet found in a room in the house belonged to
\ntheir chief, identified as Agus Diaz.<\/p>\n
Hary said the guards admitted that the molotov cocktails would
\nbe used in an attack against anti-Soeharto protesters who had
\nearlier rallied near Jl. Cendana, where the Soehartos reside.<\/p>\n
The house on Jl. Yusuf Adiwinata where the guards stay also
\nbelongs to Tommy, the detective said. The building was formerly
\nrented by the Putra Bangsa charity foundation.<\/p>\n
Police arrested the guards in a Saturday raid on the house in
\nyet another fruitless effort to find Tommy.<\/p>\n
Apart from molotov cocktails and a bullet, police also seized
\na jar of gasoline.<\/p>\n
On Jan. 8 police arrested Tommy's bodyguard, identified as
\nIndra Hasan, for illegal gun possession.<\/p>\n
Besides hiring civilian guards, mostly from eastern Indonesia,
\nTommy was known for hiring some pensioners and active members of
\nthe Army Special Force (Kopassus).<\/p>\n
Tommy was sentenced to 18 months in jail for corruption. The
\nbillionaire disappeared a day after President Abdurrahman Wahid
\nofficially refused to grant his request for a pardon on Nov. 2.<\/p>\n
Police arrested on Jan. 19 Tommy's spiritual advisor Elize
\nMaria Tuwahatu for illegal possession of explosives. She admitted
\nthat the bombs were given by the businessman, but still, there
\nwere no clues about the fugitive's whereabouts.<\/p>\n
Tommy's wife Ardia Pramesti Regita "Tata" Cahyani and his
\nlawyer Juan Felix Tampubolon have been questioned as suspects for
\nallegedly halting police search for Tommy. (jun)<\/p>",
