Tommy to build power plant<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): PT Okha Hutomo Satrya and Figear Ltd., two
\nprivate firms affiliated to the Humpuss Group, will build a
\ngeothermal power plant in Wayang Windu, West Java in cooperation
\nwith Asia Power of New Zealand.<\/p>\n
Humpuss Group is controlled by President Soeharto's youngest
\nson Hutomo (Tommy) Mandala Putra.<\/p>\n
The power project, to cost US$800 million, is expected to
\nstart operation in the middle of 1998 with a generation capacity
\nof 400 megawatts, Kompas daily reported yesterday.<\/p>\n
John Whebble of Asia Power and Irwan Soegiarto, representing
\nOkha Hutomo Satrya and Figear Ltd., signed the agreement on the
\nproject earlier this week.<\/p>\n
After the signing ceremony, which was witnessed by visiting
\nNew Zealand Deputy Prime Minister Don Mckinnon, Whebble and Irwan
\nsaid that the giant project is located in Kamojang, West Java and
\nwill be managed by Mandala Nusantara Limited, a joint venture of
\nthe three companies.<\/p>\n
The joint venture will operate the power plant for 30 years.<\/p>\n
The state-owned electric company, PLN, signed a purchase
\nagreement with the private firm recently to purchase the
\nelectricity from the power plant once it begins operation.<\/p>\n
Soegiarto noted that to finance the power project, Mandala
\nNusantara will acquire loans from a number of local and foreign
\nbanks, including export-import banks of Japan and the United
\nStates.<\/p>\n
Asia Power will provide technology and equipment for the power
