        "content": "<p>Tommy operates simulator<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): PT Grahadi Angkasa, a private firm owned by<br>\nHutomo (Tommy) Mandala Putra, President Soeharto's youngest son,<br>\non Friday launched its first Boeing B-737-200 simulator to<br>\nimprove the skills of the country's pilots.<\/p>\n<p>The B-737-200 simulator, manufactured by Conduction Missouri<br>\nand designed with ITS technology, offers two computerized canals<br>\nand three windows which provide visual databases of airports in<br>\nJakarta, Bali and Surabaya.<\/p>\n<p>The Directorate General of Air Transportation licensed the use<br>\nof the simulator which was installed at a cost of about US$10<br>\nmillion, the Kompas daily reported.<\/p>\n<p>The simulator will help reduce pilot training costs as<br>\ndomestic airlines will no longer have to send their pilots<br>\noverseas, to countries like the United States and Germany, to<br>\nundertake Boeing-737 training.<\/p>\n<p>However, simulated training has yet to be supplemented by real<br>\njet training operations to enable a pilot to get a Boeing 737<br>\nrating.<\/p>\n<p>Informed sources said Grahadi has set a charge of $300 per<br>\nhour for the B-737-200 simulator utilization. Overseas pilot<br>\ntraining centers charge $250 per hour.<\/p>\n<p>But Grahadi has signed agreements with domestic airlines,<br>\nincluding Merpati Nusantara Airlines, Bouraq, Sempati Air,<br>\nAirfast, Mandala and Gatari for the use of the simulator.<\/p>\n<p>There are currently some 10 B-737-200 jets operated by<br>\ndomestic air carriers.
