'Tomi' poses a threat<\/p>\n
MALANG, East Java: A namesake of the youngest son of former
\npresident Soeharto is widely regarded in this mountainous area
\nfor its hazardous nature.<\/p>\n
Protests have been raised concerning over Tomi, a local name
\nfor liquor produced by PT Sumber Sari, which many people say is
\neven available at schools.<\/p>\n
"It has caused anxiety among parents, because the liquor is
\nsold in plastic bags at a very low price. Junior high school
\nstudents can buy it," a resident, who requested anonymity, told
\nAntara on Monday.<\/p>\n
Tomi stands for topi miring (slanting hat), a reference to its
\nintoxicating effects. With 40 percent alcohol content, the liquor
\nis sold at Rp 1,000 per glass, or Rp 5,000 per liter.<\/p>\n
Regional legislator Taryo Iskak demanded the local government
\nban the company's operations for causing public anxiety.<\/p>\n
But the head of the local public order office, Sudarmono, said
\npunitive measures were out of the question, because the company
