        "content": "<p>Toll hike may depend on public opinion<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Public Works Radinal Moochtar<br>\nensured that the government will take into account<br>\nrecommendations and opinions before deciding whether to increase<br>\nthe city's toll road fees.<\/p>\n<p>One suggestion which will be seriously considered is that<br>\nusers of public transport may not be subjected to the increase,<br>\nhe said.<\/p>\n<p>His earlier statement that the toll may be increased based on<br>\na proposal by a private toll road construction company has met<br>\nboth opposition and approval.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal from the company, PT Citra Marga Nusaphala<br>\nPersada, will be submitted to President Soeharto after a new 6.8-<br>\nkilometer segment from Ancol Timur to Pluit starts operation.<\/p>\n<p>The government is also waiting for the completion of the road<br>\nto study the proposal better, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\"We will suggest a number of exceptions to the increase,\" he<br>\nsaid. One of them is that the rate for buses stays at Rp 3,500,<br>\nhe said.<\/p>\n<p>Of particular concern will be commuters from Tangerang, Bekasi<br>\nand Bogor and others who regularly use the tollway such as truck<br>\ndrivers.<\/p>\n<p>\"We hope more people will use tollway coupons, which are 10<br>\npercent cheaper,\" he said. The possible increase will be less<br>\nhard on them, he said.<\/p>\n<p>If more people use the coupons, this could lessen congestion<br>\nat entry gates, as motorists wait for officers to return change,<br>\nhe said.<\/p>\n<p>In response to whether motorists can pay just for the distant<br>\nthey intend to travel on the tollway, Radinal said this is not<br>\npossible yet for motorists within the city.<\/p>\n<p>\"This will only add to congestion,\" he said.
