Toastmaster to represent Asia<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta toastmaster, Rene C. de Jesus, will
\nrepresent Asia in the International Regional Speech Competition
\nin New Orleans, U.S., on Aug. 19.<\/p>\n
De Jesus earned the right to compete in the regional final by
\nwinning the Pan Southeast Asia District Championship in Johor,
\nMalaysia on June 1 .<\/p>\n
It was the first time in the history of toastmasters an
\nIndonesian has won the ASEAN final.<\/p>\n
Speaking Thursday night at Innovators Toastmasters, Rene said
\nhe was delighted with the victory.<\/p>\n
\"When they announced I had won, the whole Indonesian
\ndelegation erupted,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"I feel very proud to have won for Indonesia.\"<\/p>\n
With his speech titled \"The Power of Unconditional Love\", de
\nJesus defeated speakers from Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.<\/p>\n
It is the first time the Southeast Asia district has qualified
\nto send its champion to the U.S. regional finals.<\/p>\n
If de Jesus wins the regional final, he will compete in the
\nWorld Championship Speech Finals, also to be held in New Orleans,
\none week later.<\/p>\n
De Jesus has been a member of Toastmasters for a year and a
\nhalf and will be the next president of the Jakarta Toastmasters
