The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is advancing the use of alternative energy by installing solar panels to lessen reliance on fossil fuels, prompted by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East that threaten global energy supplies. Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo highlighted this initiative during a press conference on the first-quarter realisation of the 2026 Regional Budget, noting that detailed policies are being formulated to promote energy efficiency. Complementary measures include enhancing public transportation connectivity and implementing work-from-home policies on Fridays to further cut fuel consumption in the capital.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is currently
developing the use of alternative energy through the installation of
solar panels to reduce dependence on fossil fuels or fuel oil (BBM).
According to DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo, the development
of alternative energy use is being carried out due to geopolitical
tensions in the Middle East, which directly impact the global energy
supply chain, including potential disruptions to BBM supplies.
“Regarding efficiency and alternative energy, Jakarta is currently
developing one of them, which is solar panels,” Pramono stated during a
press conference on the realisation of the first-quarter APBD 2026 at
City Hall, Jakarta, on Friday. Nevertheless, he mentioned that the
policy is still being prepared and will be regulated further. “We will
implement this policy in more detail so that there is an alternative to
reduce dependence on fossil fuels,” Pramono said. Pramono assessed that
increasing the use of public transportation is one of the keys to energy
efficiency in Jakarta. He also believes that the connectivity of public
transport in the capital is now improving, allowing the public to switch
from private vehicles. In addition, the implementation of work-from-home
(WFH) policies in the DKI Provincial Government environment every Friday
is expected to suppress BBM use in Jakarta.
",
